There is no cure for birth and death save to enjoy the interval.
-- George Santayana

'Nuff said.

"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."
-- Hunter S. Thompson

...just because I hate the RIAA. Of course, the music business is changing. Just check out the 365 days worth of Creative Commons licensed free music.

I think it's the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is
drawn and cross it deliberately.
-- George Carlin

I thought it was "thinking up goofy shit; coming around every now and
then, letting you know what it is", George.
Carlin is on of the best comedians ever, and he does his duty very
well. But I think this is the duty of every thinking person, not just
comedians. If you never cross the line, then you're pretty much just
another cow in the queue. Question the status quo, and step outside
the box every once in awhile. You might find some surprising new
perspectives.

Historically, the claim of consensus has been the first refuge of scoundrels; it is a way to avoid debate by claiming that the matter is already settled.
-- Michael Crichton

Kinda like "everybody knows" we only use 10% of our brains, even though it is pretty obviously false. Unless you want to argue that neurons only account for about 10% of the brain matter... but there is no unused-yet-usable 90% waiting to be tapped, as those who recite the 10% theory believe.
I think the second refuge is that of "that's the way it's always been done". Acting as though tradition makes something right is rather absurd. Racial discrimination, sexual discrimination, raping the enemy's women during war, stoning heretics: all good examples of bad traditions that we have (mostly?) given up. Or at least given up pretending are okay.

People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I
don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world
are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want,
and, if they can't find them, make them.
-- George Bernard Shaw

The wages of sin are death, but by the time taxes are taken out, it's just sort of a tired feeling.
--  Paula Poundstone

I knew taxes had to be good for something... I've always found that "wages of sin" saying to be rather silly. Everybody sins, and everybody dies, but the two have absolutely no relation to one another. Anyhow, sorry I missed the weekend. I'm still new to this whole "doing it manually" thing. And now, back to your regularly scheduled sinning.
